Advocacy

Most of our lawyers are qualified as Solicitor-Advocates (Higher Courts, Civil) and the firm is able to provide a full range of advocacy services on behalf of its clients in all relevant courts and tribunals. Clients do not therefore need to retain barristers to represent them in court unless they specifically wish to do so. This can dramatically reduce costs and duplication of work.

Mark Humphries was one of the pioneers of advocacy by solicitors in the 1980s and 1990s and became the unofficial press spokesman for the solicitors’ branch of the profession when solicitors began to appear in the higher courts. He was one of the first solicitors to take full advantage of the extension of solicitors’ rights when he qualified in 1994 as a Solicitor-Advocate (Higher Courts, Civil).
